Colette Klopp James, M.A.
Professional Counselor Associate
I am a Professional Counselor Associate in the state of Oregon, and I have been working with adolescents, teens, and young adults for over 20 years. I spent over a decade as a school counselor before moving into private practice, where I now use my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling to support clients in a more individualized way.
As a former school counselor, I saw firsthand the challenges that teens and young adults face every day. The pressure from school, work, and social media can feel overwhelming, and for many, anxiety, depression, and feelings of not being good enough become part of their daily experience.
My work has also given me the opportunity to support adolescents and teens in more intensive settings, including inpatient hospitalization psychiatric treatment and intensive outpatient treatment programs for eating disorders. I have worked extensively with students in special education from K–12, and I have also served as a college campus mental health counselor.
All of these experiences shape how I show up in my work. I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and supported. I look forward to meeting you and walking alongside you as you move toward growth and healing.

When I am not working I enjoy being a mom to my two children and 3 fur babies. You may see my golden retriever from time to time, as he loves to hang out with me in my office. Some of my favorite things to do are to watch the Kansas City Chiefs, read a good book series (Colleen Coble is who I'm into right now), attend bible study with my best girlfriends, enjoy a good cup of coffee and travel (seeing museums and presidential libraries are my thing at the moment).
I am also passionate about empowering parents and guardians when it comes to making sure their child is being served properly at school in special education. Having a child on the spectrum and being a former school counselor it has given me a deep passion and understanding for supporting families through this process.
As the NAACP Lubbock Branch Health and Wellness Chair, I assess the health needs of the Lubbock community and advocate for equal access to health education, care, treatment and research for all Americans.
